EXPERIMENTAL PATTERN CUTTING


TEACHING: Sara Coleman.

LEVEL: Intermediate.

DURATION: 16 h. (2 days_ 8 h. /day)

No. STUDENTS: Between 7 and 12 students. 

AIMED AT: Creators of any discipline related to Textile, Art or Design; fashion designers, pattern makers, architects, artisans, creative companies and fashion design schools who want to develop or expand their creativity through design patterns. 

 

PRESENTATION

This workshop explores the possibilities of Pattern Cutting, researching new creative processes of transformation which students will design their own patterns. We propose a creative and experimental process that will take us to discover new designs, based on organic pattern, studying the relationship between body, garment and space and the relation between the organic and the bstract.

 

PROGRAM

  • 1. The pattern, constructive thinking. Introduction.
  • 2. The pattern over time. Evolution East and West.

Workshop:

  • 3. New forms for Fashion Design through Organic Pattern: 

- From 3D to 2D. Patterns, structures and forms.

  • 4. The body movement and its correspondence with the selection of fabrics:  

-Techniques Handling of tissues, development and application volumes.

  • 5. Design Process: Design, function and creation.

 

OBJECTIVES

  • To develop the creative capacity of students through the design patterns.
  • To understand the pattern as both creative and constructive thinking.
  • To develop the capacity for abstraction through the 3D-2D interaction.
  • To research constructive techniques and creative processes of transformation to experiment with and enrich the learning experience, discovering new forms of application for the design and pattern.
